Here comes the sun! First we drove to Arlington National Cemetery and saw the graves of the Kennedys, William Howard Taft, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We also saw the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We toured Robert E. Lee's home and the largest mass gravesite from the Civil War- 2111 unidentified soldiers! We ate lunch and shopped at Union Station then headed to the White House Visitors' Center. We wanted to take a picture in front of the White House but learned that it was closed off for the State dinner with the President of Mexico. We then took the Metro back to Union Station and took the Twilight Tour of the Monuments with a great tourguide named John. We saw the Lincoln, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and World War II Memorials in the dark. We even saw the light in the Capitol- meaning the House or Senate is in session- at 11 at night! We drowsily drove back to our hotel after a sixteen-hour day and finally got to bed at midnight. More tomorrow from Mount Vernon....
