Sunshine in the Capitol! We finally had a beautiful day at the Potomac River and Mount Vernon. We toured George Washington's home and the grounds and saw his and Martha Washington's final resting place. The home was decorated with bright colors in the British style of the time. We learned that he and Martha had over 600 visitors in one year! We also saw his private study where he had a swivel chair and a chair with a fan attatched- modern technology for the time. We saw the Wharf and the Spirit of Mount Vernon. Then we went to a mock farm and saw and fed sheep and cows, and watched a horse plowing with an Early American plow.We also saw the Necessary- a two-hundred year old outhouse! We shopped in the gift shop while we waited for our reservations at the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant. After an hour of waiting we had a wonderful colonial meal of salmon corn cakes, shrimp salad, chicken salad, and turkey pot pye. We thanked our chaperones with a meal on us! It's been a wonderful trip and we're going to be sad to leave in the morning.
